TSET Grant Funding
The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) generously provided funding for the development of this website. The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) extends sincere gratitude to TSET for their support, without which the OK Rising website project and accompanying curriculum would not have been possible. Thank you, TSET, for recognizing the value of this resource in promoting high-quality physical education instruction.
Vision & Alignment: Meaningful Physical Education
The Oklahoma Academic Standards for Physical Education, OER lessons, and Micro-Credential are intentionally aligned with evidence-based practices from the Meaningful Physical Education framework, which emphasizes the integration of motor competence, appropriate challenge, personal relevance, social interaction, and fun. Initiated in 2025, this project was led by Shana Classen, Heather Mastin, and Virginia Mitchell. The curriculum and assessments were developed collaboratively with physical education teachers from across the state of Oklahoma and in partnership with the Kansas State Department of Education.
Teacher Contributions & Submissions
Through this process, OSDE engaged experienced and dedicated physical educators who formed the foundation of this work. The purpose of OK Rising is to provide best practices for a modern physical education curriculum.
OK Rising is designed to be an ever-evolving resource, showcasing quality physical education practices through the continual addition of new content. Physical educators are encouraged to submit lesson plans that are effective for their students and classes in this Google form at https://bit.ly/4pd4Wvf. This project has been, and will continue to be, a collaborative effort dedicated to providing Oklahoma students and teachers with a fun, challenging, and meaningful physical education curriculum.
